ST. MARTIN DROPS SECOND CONSECUTIVE GAME

St. Martin opened the season with two straight wins for the third consecutive season. But unlike those previous outings, the Yellow Jackets now find themselves 2-2 after a pair of two straight losses. Visiting Crestview (Fla.) High scored 31 of the final 34 points of the game Friday night, erasing a 21-15 St. Martin lead in the process and capturing a 46-24 win over the Yellow Jackets. The loss leaves St. Martin at that break even 2-2 mark a month into the current campaign. Standout senior St. Martin signal-caller Wayne Overmann threw three touchdown tosses, including a pair to wide receiver Quan Walley in the loss. He hit Walley with scoring strikes from 5 and 10 yards. Overman's other touchdown toss went to running back Ham McGee from 11-yards out. Yellow Jacket placekicker Sean Gomez added three extra points and a 30-yard field goal. 24 straight points by Crestview in a span from late in the first half to mid-way through the third period turned the tide in favor of the Bulldogs and they never looked back. Kalem Reddix had an interception for St. Martin and Issac Williams scooped a fumble for the Yellow Jackets on defense. Crestview is coached by former Pearl River Community College head coach Tim Hatten, who guided PRCC to national prominence during his tim in Poplarville. Picayune beat SMHS 56-21 last week. The Yellow Jackets head to East Central next week.
