OVERMAN, MCGEE ACCOUNT FOR 7 TD'S
MADISON
The rushing attack for St. Martin was unstoppable on Friday night.
Behind the duo of Wayne Overman III and Javon McGee, the Yellow Jackets ran all over MRA 51-28 at Patriot Field.
“They gave us some open looks to where we can run the ball more,” Overman said. “They respected our offense as they should, but I took advantage some opportunities of running the ball.”
McGee rushed for 140 yards on nine carries with three touchdowns. He scored on a 2-yard run for the game’s first touchdown. He also had an 80-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and a 35-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Overman had 152 yards rushing on 10 carries with two touchdowns. He also went 8 of 9 passing for 161 yards with two touchdowns.
“We started out slow, but we are a second half team and we showed it tonight,” Overman said. “We played ball together in the second half and that’s what got us the win.”
The Yellow Jackets (2-0) had a 16-point swing advantage during a two-minute span in the third quarter.
The run started off with Overman’s 44-yard touchdown run. Rico Moore blocked a punt that went out of back of the end of zone for a safety. One play later, McGee scored on a 35 yard touchdown run.
“That was the difference in the game right there,” said St. Martin coach Eddie Wayne Whitehead. “Offensively we did what we needed to do. Defensively, we’ve got a long way to go.”
Jake Reeves had 172 yards and one touchdown for MRA (2-1).
