TWO HORNETS SET TO BREAK OWN RECORDS
“I didn’t know it until then,” Overman said, “but, honestly, I think this week can be exciting and hopefully we can break the records again this week.”
That’s not Overman being cocky or overly confident. There is reason to think both seniors will break their own records before the end of this season. After all, that’s what they just did.
Overman had the previous high of 335 passing yards in a game — which was set in 2014 against Hancock — and Reddix had the record for receiving yards with 228 in a game last season against MRA, according to St. Martin coach Eddie Whitehead.
“They are both really talented kids,” Whitehead said. “We want to be the best offense in the state and those two have a big part in that.”
St. Martin, which visits MRA (2-0) on Friday, should at least be considered for that title.
Overman and Reddix both have several offers to play at the Division I level, but the offense also features sophomore running backs Donte Starks and Ham McGee. The Yellowjackets scored 506 points during the regular season in 2015, more than any other team. There could’ve been more points, but despite finishing 9-3, St. Martin didn’t make the playoffs for the 12th straight year.
“We are looking to change that,” Reddix said. “The records were a big start, but we are more focused on doing what we need to do to help push the team.”
